School visits (to resume when the corona crisis is over)

'Fantastic Feelings' and 'I'm Not Afraid of Spiders' (see Books page)  are designed to help support emotional literacy, and can be used as a tool to encourage children to talk about feelings.
The content fits with the PSHE learning objectives:

  • Supporting children to recognise a range of emotions in themselves and others.
  • Supporting children to use a range of different words to describe feelings.
  • Supporting children to talk about the feelings people experience in different situations.

Testimonials

'Thankyou very much for coming to share your poems with the class. The children really enjoyed listening to them, and I though the subjects were very relatable. The children particularly enjoyed the poem 'The Sea' as it reminded them of their holidays.'

Suzi Haigh Year 2/3 class teacher Fenstanton Primary School.

'The children really enjoyed your visit, they were especially excited about having a real-life author in the class. It was great that the session gave the children the opportunity to think about the different emotions of the characters in the poems, as identifying emotions has been the focus of our PHSE lessons this term.

Niamh Lawton Year 1 Class teacher Swavesey Primary School.

The children thoroughly enjoyed your visit and it was great to see them talking about and describing emotions in different contexts. The poems were very engaging, and the children could relate them to their own personal experiences, which made it easy for them to understand.

Kate Wilkins Year 1 class teacher Fen DraytonPrimary School.

'The children had completed a special week about feelings the week before, so Jane coming to share her lovely book couldn't have been timed any better. The children enjoyed exploring different feelings through Jane's poetry and it helped them to gain a deeper understanding. We  share the poems regularly now, during story time.
